Dermalogica is a brand I’ve been itching to try for ages. I’ve always heard so many great things about this brand so when I got the invitation to be part of their influencer programme I was so excited to finally try some of their products.
Today I am going to talk you through the winter skincare routine I’ve put together through the use of the Dermalogica products and my thoughts on the products I’ve been testing out. Even though this post is in collaboration with Dermalogica, as always all opinions remain my own honest opinion.
I’ve always loved the idea of a two-step cleanse but had never quite found the products that suited this more in-depth way of cleansing. Dermalogica offers a pre-cleanse* that is oil based and specifically targetted at removing layers of oil, suncream, waterproof makeup and any other stubborn dirt.
I absolutely loved the smell of this. It’s a very fresh and fruity scent. A lot of the products smelt very fresh and natural which is always great for those with sensitive skin. To use this product, you have to apply it to dry hands to help dissolve any surface oil and dirt by massaging the product into congested areas. I love that the pre-cleanse comes with a pump because it means you can distribute the right amount of product each time you use it.
After working the product around my chin and nose, the areas I experience the most congestion and problems with my skin, I then wet my hands to create a light milky paste. For my first few tries, I didn’t achieve a very milky paste at all, but once I had tested the product for a good few days, I did find this was easier to create, so make sure you’re applying a good amount of water.
And then all you have to do is rinse the product away with warm water. After this, I found my skin felt so smooth and soft. I definitely felt like after a few days into the product testing that my pores around my nose, in particular, felt unclogged and so smooth. I absolutely love how my skin feels after using this!
The only slight issues I had with the pre-cleanse* was that sometimes I felt like I was dragging the product around my face when trying to remove it, rather than actually being able to thoroughly wash it off and no matter how many times I applied more water I was still having a few problems.
I definitely have used this more in the evenings to help remove most of my makeup and dirt from the day, as well as give my skin a really deep cleanse, especially nearer that time of the month when my skin doesn’t always play ball.
Moving onto part two of the cleanse and next up is the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel*. As you can tell, this cleanser is gel based rather than being oil based. Its main aims are to remove any impurities without disturbing any of the skins natural moisture balance, remove any toxins and debris, as well as leave the skin feel smooth and clean.
My skin definitely feels like this after every use of the gel which is always what you want. I love how easy it is to apply the gel and when adding water to it I find it foams up with ease. It’s a very light gel that smells fresh with hints of lavender and mint, so it is very soothing and calming for the skin.
Also, I love how quick this is to use as I’m definitely someone who prefers a quicker and hassle-free routine. I definitely tend to reach for this more in the mornings to save time and because it helps to wake you up by being so refreshing.
One issue I’ve noticed since using these cleansers is that I have had quite a few breakouts on my chin and under it. I never really break out under my chin and I used the cleanser under their a few days in the row, before finding I had broken out on my skin in that area, so I was a little surprised at that.
Sometimes I do find that my skin is a little sensitive and doesn’t particularly like oil based products, as I’ve ran into a similar problem before with an oil-based cleanser, so it may be because of that.
Next up is the Skin Smoothing Cream which I completely fell in love with! This is Dermalogica’s best selling moisturiser which has been repackaged I do believe. This cream is designed to provide 48 hours of hydration and help to protect against environmental stress.
Again it smells very fresh and natural. I’ve been applying this morning and night. It leaves my skin feeling so smooth and hydrated. My skin has been looking a little on the dull side lately but the Skin Smoothing Cream* has definitely helped to bring some life back into it. It now looks healthy and radiant after cleansing and applying the Skin Smoothing Cream*.
I’m definitely going to keep using this one all year round. I absolutely love it and so does my skin.
The next product is definitely an interesting concept and goes by the name of the Daily Microfoliant*. Now, I don’t very often use exfoliators because sometimes I find them quite harsh on my skin and don’t feel the need to use them often, so I was surprised to read this one was for daily usage.
The Daily Microfoliant* claims to achieve brighter and smoother skin, reduce pore size and balance uneven skin tones. After cleansing, you have to pour out half a teaspoon of the powder, before dispensing the product onto wet hands and then rubbing it into your hands to create a paste.
I’ve never tried a product quite like it before, but I quite enjoyed the concept of putting the paste together. It was different and unique which I liked. You then have to apply the product in circular motions for one minute, before rinsing with warm water.
Now all the other products I liked the smell of this, but this I really couldn’t get on with. I really did not enjoy the smell. It didn’t’ smell fresh. It smelt quite the opposite and made me want to get the product off my face instantly. But I managed to persevere and was glad I did because I did like the results.
No pain, no gain, right?
My skin felt so silky smooth after using this, looked so radiant and with a gorgeous healthy glow. I was really surprised with the result of this because you all know if you’ve been a long term reader of my blog, that I’m a big fan of glowy skin.
I didn’t notice much difference in my pore size or a change in my skintone, so I might have to keep trying this more often to see this result.
I probably still wouldn’t use this every day because I wouldn’t have the patience or time at night when I’m tired, but a once or twice a week ritual, after a long day I would definitely reach for it again purely for the amazing results it gave me.
The final product, but nowhere means the least is the Skinperfect Primer*. This primer contains a spft30 which is always a hand, not only during the summer but all year round for protection. Its areas of focus are smoothing fine lines, brightening and priming the skin for makeup application.
The Skinperfect Primer* reminded of Benefit’s Porefessional Primer as it has the same silicone texture to it. It completely melts into the skin with ease and provides such a flawless base, ready for my makeup application. It definitely created that airbrushed look and helped to even my skin tone.
You can wear the Skinperfect Primer* on its own, but I prefer something with more coverage, so I always applied makeup afterwards because it’s very light. But if you were after something that made your skin look flawless without the heavy use of makeup, then this is definitely worth giving a go!
My base didn’t look much brighter and I don’t really suffer from fine lines, so I didn’t see much results there, unfortunately. But I did find that my makeup did seem to not only apply more evenly and flawless, but it also lasted longer and kept intact without wearing off.
But for now, I will be using some on rotation and keeping some close by like the primer* and smoothing cream*!
I’m really impressed with Dermalogica and I cannot wait to discover more from them!
