Since my year hasn’t got off to the best start yet, it’s got me thinking about the things I feel like I’ve lost or fallen behind with recently and I now want to make more time for.
When life gets in the way it can be hard to keep up with the things you want to or the things you know make you feel better. This is totally normal and ok. But I think it’s a good way to feel more you again after a hard time to make more time for those things you’ve been neglection.
This is 5 things I want to make more time for…
I want to get back into an exercise routine
Last year I began to workout weekly and I can honestly say that it helped me so much. I felt so much better mentally and physically. I felt a lot more refreshed and energised. I felt clearer in mind and I felt good about getting my body moving. It is something that genuinely helped me a lot and I did it consistently for the first 6 months of the year.
Then I went away to London in June and it kind of threw me off because I wasn’t in my usual routine, then Matt had his bike accident so I was looking after him during the day whilst he was on crutches, so I kind of just lost my routine with it completely.
I’ve done a couple of workouts so far this year but I want to get back into a routine with it as I knew it makes me feel better not just physically but mentally as well. I’m going to start small and aim for one a week, then build from there as I feel like this is way more sustainable. My fitness levels are so low right now so it will take me a while to build it up again.
I want to get back into reading
I managed to read 10+ books last year after setting myself a Goodreads goal of 10. Before everything went to shit at the beginning of this year, I set myself a goal of 15 books this year which again isn’t a lot to some people, but sometimes I can find reading really difficuilt when my mental health is poor because I can’t concentrate on things for long.
But I want to get back into reading as like the whole exercise thing it really does help me. It feels good to pick up a book, get cosy and escape into the pages for an hour or so. I used to read 10 pages every night but that’s long gone out of the window so if I can manage to read a few hours each week that will be a good start in the right direction.
I want to look after me
With my mental health issues, it’s always been important for me to look after myself in the best possible way that I can. When I start feeling better or when I’m feeling the lowest of the lows, I can let that slip massively, either because I don’t feel like I need to do so anymore or because I just physically can’t because I either don’t have the energy or can’t bring myself to because I feel so awful.
I want to start making little changes to look after me more which includes doing more of the things I enjoy and what make me feel better. I want to make time for myself again which I’ve neglected after a bad start to the year and being busy with work. This can include anything from looking after myself physically and mentally especially helping my anxiety and stomach issues.
I think it’s important to have that time for yourself to be there for you because without it you can completely feel overwhelmed and like you’re running on zero.
I want to invest in my skincare
Since probably this time last year my skin has been awful. I honestly have no idea why but it has been bad. Of course, it is not as bad as other people’s and I feel grateful for having clear skin on other areas of my face but it is what I consider bad when I know my skin used to be so clear in 2018 and I barely had a breakout. Now I’m always breaking out and after a while, it can get you down. I’ve also got scarring on my chin from previous breakouts which I know won’t heal.
So I want to make more time to invest in my skincare. I don’t necessarily mean purchasing new or expensive products but I just mean making more time to actually take care of it properly. Always remembering to cleanse twice a day, moisturising, get into a good routine with it both morning and night, using a face mask and exfoliating the skin once a week, drinking more water, using an spf and maybe trying some more spot focused products.
If you have any skincare recommendations, I would love to hear them!
I want to focus more on the behind the scenes
There are so many things I want to work on behind the scenes. I really need to make time to write a list of all the things I want to focus on and work on one or two things each week until I’ve ticked everything off. This includes things behind the scenes of both my blog and my business.
I need to update a lot of my blog, like my about page, disclaimer and my theme for example. There’s also my services page for my business that I need to update and make more current so that when potential client’s find me, they can have current update information to check out before they make the decision to get in touch.
Over on my Instagram, I want to change up my Instagram story highlight covers and work on planning my spring theme for the upcoming spring months. There’s always so much to do behind the scenes but I am determined to sit down, make time and get something’s ticked off.
